Health Insurance Updates
As you may know, the individual health insurance marketplace is extremely unstable. In 2017, Anthem was the only carrier for majority of Southeastern Ohio. Medical Mutual offered plans in counties such as Licking and Franklin, but you were forced to stay in-network or risk having no coverage at all. It was a rough year for everyone, to say the least. Unfortunately, we do not foresee any improvements for 2018. Anthem announced that they are pulling out completely and will no longer offer individual plans next year. Medical Mutual will still offer plans in their service area, but are still restricting their network. For those whose only option was Anthem, the “new” option for 2018 is with Caresource.
Fortunately, McInturf Fulmer Insurance will continue to assist and enroll clients for 2018. The Individual Open Enrollment Period runs November 1st – December 15th. During this time, individuals may enroll in a plan. For those who only need coverage for a couple months, we do offer Short-Term Medical Plans(STM). STM plans are a great way to have coverage for those periods of time between jobs or if you are turning 65 later in the year. If you are needing coverage for a few months out of the year, feel free to contact our office or simply browse our plans under “companies” using the “Pivot Health” link located at the bottom of the page. Individuals can purchase a STM any time during the year.
Needing dental or vision? We have multiple carriers to meet your needs. Simply contact us and provide your dentist/optometrist’s name, and we can verify the network for you. There is no enrollment period for dental or vision, you may enroll at any time. We also offer dental and vision for groups.
With everything that is happening in the individual marketplace, we highly encourage employers to entertain the idea of a group health plan. There are many carriers in the group marketplace and there is no enrollment period for a new group. As an added bonus, you do not have to deal with the headache of the individual marketplace. Carriers realize the uncertainty with Obamacare and have found ways to make group plans more affordable for employers.
